Oakesdale boys, girls pace Whitman County

DEER PARK - Oakesdale's boys and girls set the pace for Whitman County track and field teams competing Friday, March 31, at the Glenn Wolf Invite at Deer Park High School.

The Oakesdale and Garfield-Palouse girls finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the Glenn Wolf Invite track and field event Friday, March 31, at Deer Park High School.

The Oakesdale girls scored 64 team points to edge the Vikings with 59. The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagle girls finished 16th, with 11.5 points.

Meanwhile in the boys competitions, Oakesdale and St. John-Endicott finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

Oakesdale had 15 points and the Eagles were right behind with 14, as the Garfield-Palouse boys tied with Valley Christian for 20th place with 3 points each.

Oakesdale's Jessie Reed paced all Whitman County competitors, winning three events and finishing second in another.

Reed won the girls 100-meter in 13.29 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 14-0.825.

She also anchored the girls 4X100 relay team of Reed, Jenna Rawls, Gianna Anderson and Marilla Hockett. The relay team won in a time of 53.28 seconds.

Reed's second place finish was in the girls 200-meter, where she finished in 28.24 seconds, behind Garfield-Palouse champion Kennedy Cook, who posted a time of 27.40 seconds.

Oakesdale's girls 4X200 relay team also won gold, with Lucy Hockett, Bradyn Henley, Grace Perry and Rawls logging a winning time of 1:57.10.

For the Oakesdale boys, senior Jackson Perry shined in javelin, where he finished third with a flight of 144-02. Teammate Shawn Bober was 8th with 119-07.

Perry was also second in high jump, clearing 6-foot.

Other Top 15 finishes for Oakedale include:

• Marilla Hockett, 5th in girls 100-meter, 13.78 seconds.

• Ralws, 14th in the girls 100-meter, 14.28 seconds.

• The 4X400 girls relay team (Emily Dingman, Henley, Hockett and Perry), 5th, 4:36.07.

• Henley, tied for 14th in girls shot put, 26-01.50. She was also 6th in high jump with 4-foot-6.

• Henley, 8th in girls javelin, 81-07; Anderson, 9th in girls javelin, 80-02.

• In girls long jump, Henley and Anderson, tied for 6th, 13-04; Perry, 10th, 12-11.50.

• Logan Brown, 13th in boys 100, 12.49. He was also 12th in boys 200, 25.58.

• The 4X100 boys relay team (Brown, Austin Goyke, Alex McHargue and Wyatt Southern) 12th, 50.92.

• Charlie Henning, 15th in boys discuss, 97-04.

Garfield-Palouse

Kennedy Cook turned in the best performance for the Vikings.

The senior won the girls 200-meter in 27.40 and the 400-meter in 59.79.

Cook was also a key runner in the girls' 4X200 relay and 4X400 races for the Vikings.

In the 4X200, the team (Noemie Appel, Cook, Zoe Laughary and Samantha Pfaff) finished fifth in 1:59.80.

In the 4X400, the team (Cook, Lola Edwards, Ashleigh Hightree and Courage Hightree) finished sixth in 4:44.03.

Ava Hemphill also put in top performances for Oakesdale, bringing home silver in the shot put with a toss of 33-09.75 and third in discuss with a distance of 101-04.

Pfaff, too, was clearing the way for the Oakesdale girls, taking third in high jump with a leap of 4-10.

In other Garfield-Palouse Top 15 finishes:

• Laughary, 6th in girls discus, 76-00.

• The girls 4X100 (Laughary, Pfaff, Appel and Laynie Southern) was 8th with 58.50.

• Charlotte Marshall, 5th in girls 300-meter hurdles, 54.17; HettyLee Laughary, 8th in girls 300-meter hurdles, 58.87.

• Marshall, 14th in girls 100-meter hurdles, 21.39.

• In girls 1,600-meter, Ashleigh Hightree, 7th, 6:10.29; Edwards, 8th, 6:16.612; and Courage Hightree, 10th, 6:20.92.

• In girls 800-meter, Ashleigh Hightree, 10th, 2:47.96; and Courage Hightree, 13th, 2:50.11.

• In boys 800-meter, Brendan Snekvik, 9th, 2:17.28; Kieran Snekvik, 10th, 2:17.47.

• In boys 1,600-meter, Kieran Snekvik, 7th, 4:57.54; Brendan Snekvik, 8th, 4:57.88.

• The boys 4X100 relay team (Josh Appel, Ayden Bassler, Liam Cook and Hunter Hanson) was 15th in 55.07

• The boys 4X400 relay team (Nicholas Meeuwsen, Brendan Snekvik, Bassler and Kieran Snekvik) was 10th in 4:06.64.

Eagles results

For St. John-Endicott, senior Rory Maloney had the highest finish during the meet that included class 1B, 2B and 1A schools.

Maloney finished third in the boys 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.66 seconds.

Meanwhile, teammate senior William Hubert finished seventh in the same event with a time of 21.14 seconds.

Maloney also finished sixth overall in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.28 seconds, and sixth in high jump with a leap of 5 feet 8 inches.

Sophomore Emery Molina led the way for the Eagles girls.

She had a personal record high jump of 4 feet 8 inches, good enough to finish fourth.

In other Top 15 finishes for St. John:

• Freshman Chloe Waddell led the way for the Eagles girls. She finished eighth in the girls shot put with a throw of 29:03.00. Waddell also posted a 12th-place finish in girls javelin, with a toss of 72-07 and 14th in girls discus with a flight of 65-11, a personal record.

• Kate Roberts, Waddell, Emery Molina and Julia Guske, 12th in the girls 4X400 relay, 5:06.83.

• Sarah Quigley, 13th, girls discuss, 66-06. She was also 13th in girls javelin with a flight of 69-04.

• Freshman Keira Maloney, 5th in girls pole vault, 5-06, a persona record.

• Guske, 11th in girls triple jump, 28-7.50.
