Victim of killing had remains hidden near Rock Lake

EWAN – The remains of a human male were uncovered off Gene Webb Rd. near Ewan and Rock Lake by Spokane County Major Crimes detectives, Jan. 15.
According to Spokane County district court documents, the remains are those of Chase Catelli, 35, according to the medical examiner's office. The cause of death has been determined by the coroner to be multiple gunshot wounds.
According to a Spokane County Sheriff's office press release, investigators were led to the remains by Catelli's mother, Christine Diane Catelli, 58, who told investigators that she had shot and killed Chase in June of 2022 in a residence owned by Thomas McKinlay at 1403 W. Jennings Rd. in Spangle, WA.
After killing her son, Christine removed Chase's head, wrapped both separately in plastic bags and dumped the remains near Rock Lake, according to Spokane County district court documents.
On Jan. 14, Spokane County Sheriff's office responded to a suspicious caller report, the sheriff's department press release states.
The caller stated that his sister had confessed to killing her son in June of 2022. Both the caller and the suspect were contacted in the 4800 block of N. Assembly St., in Spokane near the Veteran's Medical Center.
Christine proceeded to explain to investigators that she had shot and killed Chase, removed his head and disposed of the remains near Rock Lake, according to Spokane County district court documents.
Christine proceeded to tell investigators the location of Chase's remains.
Detective James Hall traveled to the location indicated by Christine and discovered a black plastic bag containing human remains, according to sheriff's department press release.
