Joey Dean "JD" Elder

Dec. 13, 1969 - Feb. 27, 2022

Joey Dean “JD” Elder passed away at his home in Canby, Oregon on February 27, 2022 after a short battle with cancer at age 52. Joey was born in Spokane, WA on December 13, 1969. He attended school in Pullman initially. At age 8 he moved to Garfield, WA where he graduated from Garfield-Palouse High School in 1988. Joey was active in sports all through school and lettered in basketball, football and track. He achieved Eagle Scout in 1987. To many underclassmen, Joey was someone they looked up to. Joey loved growing up in the small community of Garfield where he worked summers as a lifeguard, mowing lawns, driving wheat truck, operating a swather and driving a combine.

After high school graduation he moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington (UW) where he participated in track as a “walk on” pole vaulter. He worked as a painter for his Great Uncle Riley during vacations and summers and put this skill to use over the years. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He graduated from UW in 1992 in Building Construction and began his career working for a demolition company in Seattle and Portland before launching his own successful company in March 1997, Elder Demolition.

In July of 1997 JD married Trisha Mann, and they made their home in Canby, Oregon. JD and Trisha raised two intelligent and beautiful daughters, Tia (24) and Jada (21). Nothing brought him more joy than his family and it showed. He was a fantastic husband and father and enjoyed coaching his daughters’ various sports teams and was their biggest cheerleader, teaching so many life lessons along the way. JD was an active member of the Canby community and became a wonderful friend to so many. He played basketball with a group of men every Saturday morning for several years. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his friendship to so many and that ever present infectious smile.

JD is survived by his wife Trisha, daughters Tia and Jada whom he adored, his mother Cheryl Elder, Liberty Lake, WA, brother Jeff Elder, Canby, OR, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as a large community of friends.
