COLFAX — Wednesday, Nov. 30, Sheriff’s Deputy with the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, Cory Alcantar, was assisting a driver who slid off the roadway due to poor weather conditions when a sperate driver lost control of their vehicle, sliding backwards and pinning Alcantar in-between two cars.

Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers, confirmed that Alcantar was not on duty at the time. “The car hit him with some force, causing trauma to his left leg,” Myers said.

Alcantar was transported to Whitman Community Hospital, and later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Spokane to undergo surgery for his leg injuries.

“It will take a couple weeks for swelling and his knee to stabilize,” Meyers said, noting that Alcantar will go for another surgery sometime before or around Christmas.”

Meyers confirmed that Alcantar’s surgeon expects him to make full recovery, “At least we know he’s going to get through it,” he said.
