Rosalia Veterans Day program

ROSALIA - Veterans were celebrated at Rosalia's Veteran Program Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Veteran's Memorial Park.

"I have a T-Shirt that says only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you the American Veteran and Jesus Christ. That's about as true as you can get right there," said Pastor Mike Hill before opening the ceremony with a prayer for those that serve, and have served.

Everyone stood, and recognized the flag as Tim Braun sang the National Anthem. Rosalia Mayor, Lee Root then welcomed the crowd.

People who were participating in the program were then introduced, including the taps played by Bruce Henning, Charlie and Jordan Henning, and Jacob Goyke. The rifle team included Rick Mattausch, John Loehn, and Dan Hillman.

Scout Gabriel Morgan then lead the flag ceremony with the scouts from Troop number 558, "Today we are here to honor the symbol of our country, and retire a flag that has served it's useful life as a symbol for freedom in our country," said Morgan.

Rosalia High School Alumni Class of 1976, retired MSgt. Dick Mattausch, was the guest speaker. Dick served in Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He is the current Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander of A and T Mattausch Post 11326 in the Cheney and Spokane Area. Mattausch regaled those in attendance with stories from his service, many of which had ties back to his hometown of Rosalia.
