Larry Kjack

Oct. 20, 1955 April 28, 2022

Larry Kjack, 66, of Valleyford, died April 28, 2022.

Larry was born Oct. 20, 1955, and was a lifelong resident of Spokane County.

He graduated from University High School in 1974 and went on to receive a water resources degree from Spokane Community College in 1976. He worked throughout the northwest and Alaska as a core driller for 15 years.

While assessing mining claims in northern Nevada, he met a schoolmarm named Val. They were married a year later. Together, they bought and renovated a house with acreage south of Spokane. They lived there together and raised their family for 38 years.

Larry gave up traveling, for work in 1987 and began a career in aerospace. He worked for Boeing and Triumph Composite Materials until his retirement in 2017.

The two best days of his life were the birth of his son, Nathan, in 1988, and the birth of his grandson, Carter, in 2014.

Larry loved hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. He shared his passion for the outdoors with Nate and Carter. They spent weekends sharing the many secrets of fishing the local lakes and creeks.

He had outdoor trivia and thousands of hunting and fishing stories which he freely shared with anyone willing to listen. Larry had a hearty, infectious, Santa like laugh that could be heard throughout the day. His laugh was his outward display of his love of life and his family. Larry never missed a Freeman football game in all the years Nate played there.

Every Friday night rain, shine or snow he could be found standing on the top row of the bleachers proudly watching Nate play.

Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Valerie Vold Kjack; his son, Nathan Kjack; and grandson, Carter Kjack. He is greatly missed by his hunting partners, friends and family.

A memorial was held June 4, 2022. Donations can be made in Larry's memory to East Spokane Kiwanis Paint-A-Helmet, P.O. Box 3003 Spokane, WA 99202.
