New owners of the Barbershop located at 209 N. Main St. L-R, Jack Cramer, 63, and Steven and Samantha Burd, both 52, stand outside their new business.

COLFAX - Three people have joined forces to reopen Barbershop on Main.

Formerly owned by longtime barber Terry Lee Vietz, the shop at 209 N. Main St. reopened Tuesday, July 19.

Vietz passed away Feb. 5, 2022.

Steven and Samantha Burd, both 52, and their partner Jack Cramer, 63, all of Boise, said they are excited to keep the "old-timey" feeling alive.

Vietz had closed down his barbershop after 38 years due to his battle with cancer before his death.

"Some would come in just to talk to other people. It was like a visiting place," his widow, Jacqueline Mitzenberg-Vietz said at the time of his death. "Everybody enjoyed coming to see him.

"If they didn't get their hair cut, they just enjoyed visiting with the guys who were there."

The new owners are looking to keep Vietz legacy alive, and value the community history of traditional barbershops.

All three have been through barber school, and moved their shared business from Boise to Colfax.

"We're just traditional barbers," said Mrs. Burd, "There's nothing like someone in this chair, someone is in that chair and a bunch of people are sitting... And they're all part of the conversation."

"I saw Terry's set up, and I just fell in love with the old-fashioned look."

When asked what she looks forward to about living in a smaller town, Mrs. Burd said, "I don't know how to phrase it... I guess, we're finally home."

She said her and her husband both grew up in Los Angeles, lived in Boise for 25 years and decided to move closer to their children and grand children - the Burds' daughter and son-in-law previously moved from Pullman to Colfax.

"We decided to move here for them," she said, noting her two grandchildren were helping clean the shop window.

Cramer is looking forward to the less crowded city, and the community.

"I was tired of the city," Cramer said. "I moved to Boise when I was 12, and lived in Seattle for 15 years.

"I like it here"
