'Beauty and the Beast' coming to Tekoa

Local elementary students to present play May 31, June 1

TEKOA — Local elementary school students will present their version of “Beauty and the Beast” on stage at Empire Theatre on Tuesday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 1.

“We’ve been working very hard for months,” 12-year-old actress Aislinn Gamble said. “I’m Bobette, the feather duster.”

According to Gamble, the play features students in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade; she’s a sixth-grader.

The play is being directed by Mrs. Mendoza, who also designed the costumes. Mrs. Schultz has been assisting her, specifically helping students’ character development, Gamble said.

“I like acting, but we’re forced to,” Gamble said of why she has a role in the presentation.

Besides, being “forced” to participate, Gamble said the cast has been working very hard since January and will be offering the audience a “very cool experience.”

“And, it’s held in a really awesome theater,” she said. “Everyone has put their best into it.”

Tickets for the show will be available at the door; the theater is at 126 S. Crosby St.

After the presentation, family, friends and fans are invited to stick around for autographs with the actors, Gamble said.
