Sudznscissors owner reflects on first months

Groomer enjoying doing business in city of Colfax

COLFAX- A local woman said her 6-month-old pet grooming business is taking off.

Jennie Griffin, a Merritt, Mich.-native, opened Sudzniscissors in November at 107 Canyon St.

Last week at her shop, there was hair flying around as she trimmed a small tan Chihauha mix named "Lilly."

"You should have been in here when I had a really hairy dog," Griffin said. "Hair floating all over the room."

This is lily's first time," Lilly's owner, Margie Anderson, said when asked how long she'd been coming there.

Griffin, who put herself through Paragon School of Pet Grooming in Michigan while working at a factory job in office machines, decided to open her business here after a stint in Pullman.

"I worked at Amber's Grooming in Pullman during the summer," she said. "A lot of clients came from Colfax."

She thought it would be mostly farmers, but there are a lot of different people who come in, she said.

As the owner and operator, Griffin does a little of everything - trimming, baths and "haircuts" - for a price that varies by the number of hours needed.

"Hours vary. I'm usually here on Wednesdays," she said. "One Saturday a month."

Griffin enjoys her job, and was happy to start her business here, she said.

"It's rewarding. Ecspecially when you get dogs in bad shape, and they go through a big transformation," she said.

But it's not without potential problems.

"Being bit is one of the hazards of the job people don't think about," she said. "They think I play with puppies all day ... though sometimes I do."
