SEATTLE – Two seniors from the Garfield-Palouse High School girls basketball were picked from across the state to compete in a 1B versus 2B All-State game March 19 in Western Washington.
Vikings Kenzi Pedersen and Macy Brantiner said before the game they were excited to be selected to compete in the tournament.
"I am most excited to play another game with one of my best friends," Brantiner said.
Pedersen echoed her sentiments.
"It feels pretty good to do this because we thought our last game together in basketball was at the state championships in Spokane. But we get to play together and play the sport we love," she said.
Pedersen said she was also excited to play with girls from other teams that they played against all season, while Brantiner was worried.
"I am incredibly nervous," Brantiner said. "I am not much of an offensive player and I am nervous to play with girls that don't really know me. We've played against each other but they don't really know me. I am nervous to see how the coaches put us out there and play as a team."
Players were picked from Colfax, Garfield-Palouse, Mt. Vernon, Warden and Pomeroy for the 1B team.
At the tournament, the 2B team took the win from the 1B All-State team.
"It was a really good experience. I got to meet and play with different people," Pedersen said.
Brantiner said she appreciated the community support at the tournament and at every game, she and her team competed in all season.
"It's a really good feeling to see them rally behind us and to know that the community is behind us," Brantiner said.
