Evelyn June Hyden

Evelyn June (Marple) Hyden, 88, from Oakesdale, Wash., passed away Feb. 4, 2022, in Sequim, Wash. She was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Oakesdale, to Cecil James Marple, and Julia Esther (Terrell) Marple.

June was raised on her family farm and went to school in Oakesdale where she graduated high school as Valedictorian in 1951. She attended Washington State University, earning her Bachelor's degree in education and graduated with honors.

June cherished her family and the wonderful friends that shared her journey – staying in touch with many throughout the years. She was loved beyond measure by her three children – adored and admired, inspiring them through the life she lived. She invested her time in her children, kept a meticulous house, and was an excellent cook. June was kind, thoughtful, and gracious with her words. She was forgiving, humble and strong. She shined with the light of Jesus her Lord. As a Christian, her sweet spirit was drawn to serve, whether as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, a Girl Scout leader, a nursing assistant, or her career as an English teacher. At times, she was called "Angel of Oakesdale" – as she cared for others in the community that needed a helping hand. June put her heart into all she did and her best foot forward!

Her accomplishments and interests were many, including: playing piano, playing trumpet in a family jazz band, and publishing a book of poems "Thoughts with the Tides." June served as Worthy Matron in O.E.S. Hope Chapter #29, obtained a license and flew as a private pilot, volunteered as treasurer with the Oakesdale museum and was noted in a book of "Who's Who." She enjoyed hosting and playing bridge, collecting owls and teacups, and shopping at the second-hand shops.

As an Air Force wife for many years, June traveled often, living in Okinawa, Germany, Texas, Washington, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, and New Mexico. Being an Air Force wife also meant participating in the Officers Wives Club and raising her three children while her husband was away for extended periods.

June was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter Pam (Denny) Klein, son Tim (Gigi) Hyden, and youngest daughter Patty (Craig) Boller; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Other family includes her brother Robert Marple, nieces, nephews, an aunt, and cousins.

June's heart strings were tied to Oakesdale as her earthly home, but she now dwells in peace and joy in her Heavenly home with Christ.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Community Presbyterian Church of Oakesdale, 404 Steptoe Ave., Oakesdale, Wash. Interment will follow at Oakesdale Cemetery. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
