Serving Whitman County since 1877

Didi Lee Filan

Oct. 22, 1956 – Jan. 4, 2022

Didi Lee Filan, Whitman County native, passed away January 4, 2022 in Mesa, Ariz., where she had been living for several years.

She was born October 22, 1956, in Colfax, Wash., to Hjalmer "Willie" and Sandra Cox Filan. She grew up in Hay, Wash., and graduated from LaCrosse High School. After attending Washington State University, Didi followed her passion and went on to teach in Portugal, Egypt and Spain through the International House of London.

Later she met and married David Hill of Los Angeles. She joined his family of three precious kids whom she loved as her own, Brandon, Patrick and Tara. David and Didi later divorced but remained lifelong friends.

Didi's passion for animals was evident by the many dogs and cats she kept as well as ones she rescued and trained for re-homing. There wasn't a stray she wouldn't grab. She also loved people and that wove beautifully into her job of 30 years with Fox Sports Broadcasting. She worked as an audio technician. Didi was well loved by her colleagues at work and her role as a communications director earned her many Emmy nominations and awards. Didi has many fun stories of her encounters of famous people and maybe even a sneak peek to the family, of locker room shots – rated PG of course. She loved spending summers at Lake Pend O'Reille with family and friends.

Her passion for the exploration of places, people and things will be deeply missed. She was adventurous and led a very fulfilling life of laughter and love. Her friend Jan Turney was a lifelong friend and they too had a bit of traveling fun. Didi will forever be a symbol of generosity, hope and love to all who were blessed to be in her life.

Didi was welcomed into heaven on January 4th by her loving family who went before her, Lena Cox, Sandra Filan, Willie Filan, and niece Sydney Filan. She is survived by her three brothers, Bill Filan of Connell, Wash., Damon (Jeanette) Filan of Kennewick, Wash., and Dallas (Denise) Filan of LaCrosse; her step-children, Brandon Hill, Mesa, Ariz., Tara Rectenwald of Redmond, Ore., and Patrick Hill of Hamilton, Mont .; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be on April 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m, at the Colfax Golf Course. Private Family graveside services will precede at the Colfax Cemetery. Didi would prefer that any memorial gifts to celebrate her life be given to the Whitman County Humane Society. On-line guest book is at http://www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
