NWS makes changes to fire weather zones

SPOKANE — The Eastern Washington Fire Weather Zones for the upcoming 2022 fire season were changed with some zones being overseen by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Pendleton, Ore.

“The changes will only affect fire zones in Eastern Washington under the responsibility of Spokane and Pendleton forecast offices,” stated a spokesperson.

Most fire zones in Eastern Washington have been reconfigured geographically and assigned new zone numbers. Responsibility for some areas of the Cascades and Southeastern Washington, have been transferred from Spokane to Pendleton or vice versa.
