Seeks approval of school levy

January 20, 2022

On Feb. 8, Colfax School District taxpayers will have the opportunity to vote for the next two year replacement enrichment levy.

Since the Washington State Legislature began designating school district funds, the local levies have been given the title of “Enrichment Levy.” An enrichment curriculum includes music, arts, field trips, highly capable programs, college in the high school, credit retrieval, and elective course offerings. This levy will provide and enhance extracurricular programs such as FFA, FCLA, FBLA, Knowledge Bowl, clubs, athletics, band, choir, senior projects, drama (plays), to name a few. Also supported by the levy are transportation, facilities, and maintenance.

Just like when you buy a new car, you have to change the oil, add washer fluid, change wiper blades, and change tires, there is a continuing need for there to be ongoing maintenance.

I have been a member of the Colfax Citizens for Quality Schools Committee for over 30 years. As a graduate of CHS, I have been proud of our taxpayers in the manner they have supported the school district in prior years.

This year’s replacement enrichment levy, if approved, would amount to a modest increase of 7 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation over the prior year’s levy to $1.99 per $1,000 the first year and 1 cent more the second year of the levy to $2.00 per $1,000.

Please join Cheryl and I in voting for the Colfax School District replacement enrichment levy on Feb. 8.
