Casey brings home silver for Tekoa-Rosalia

COLBERT - Two Whitman County wrestlers brought home medals Saturday, Jan. 8, from the Crusader Classic at Northwest Christian School.
Walker Montgomery of Garfield-Palouse brought home gold at 126 pounds and Jesse Casey of Tekoa-Rosalia won silver at girls 135.
Montgomery claimed his title in easy fashion, pinning both of his opponents.
In his first match, he pinned Talan Hughes of East Valley (Spokane Valley) in 1:55.
And in his final bout, he pinned Nathan Finley of Mary Walker in 57 seconds.
Casey had a tougher route to medal.
In the opening round of the girls division, Casey pinned Tylene Wnorowski of Jenkins (Chewelah) in 1:20.
In her next two bouts, she faced Mary Walker (Springdale) competitors.
She lost by pin to Brianna Smith in 1:44, then pinned Alicia Mead in 4:32 to secure a medal.
The medal determination came down to the final bout between
Wnorowski and Smith.
Wnorowski took an early lead, but was eventually pinned by Smith, securing a gold for Smith and a silver for Casey.
Other Whitman County wrestlers didn't fare as well.
At boys 145, Cullen Billings of Tekoa-Rosalia was pinned by Ethan Bolt of Kettle Falls in 28 seconds and then by Emanuel Coronel of East Valley (Spokane Valley) in 25 seconds.
At boys 160, Kekoa Razo of Tekoa-Rosalia also lost two bouts by pin.
Ethan Frank of Deer Park pinned him in 1:13 and Hunter Gleave of Colville pinned him in 2:22.
Tekoa-Rosalia's Alexis Taylor weighed in to compete at girls 145, but she didn't have anyone else in her weight class.
No other Whitman County wrestlers participated.
The girls teams from Garfield-Palouse, Tekoa-Rosalia and Colfax were scheduled for a league match Monday night at Newport.
But that event was canceled and has not been rescheduled.
On Thursday, Jan. 13, the boys teams from Garfield-Palouse, Colfax and Tekoa-Rosalia are scheduled to compete in a league mix-and-match at Liberty (Spangle).
Area teams are also scheduled to participate Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Bronco Invite.
