Reardan edges Tekoa-Rosalia, 66-64

REARDAN – Four seconds was left on the clock when the Reardan boys pulled ahead of the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves in a basketball matchup on Dec. 3.

Reardan won the non-league game, 64-62, in the closing seconds.

The team does not have a mascot due to the new state law preventing the school from using its “Indians” logo.

The Timberwolves (1-1) led the entire second half, until Reardan junior forward Tristo McCrea ducked under the defense for a 2-point shot inside the key with just 4.2 seconds remaining in the game.

That shot lifted Reardan (2-0) to its first lead of the second half, 65-64.

Then, on the ensuing throw-in, Tekoa-Rosalia fouled Reardan freshman guard Rysen Soliday, sending him to the free-throw line, where he missed his first shot, but sank the second to give his team a 2-point lead.

The Timberwolves got the ball back and after a quick in-pass, launched the ball down the court.

A Reardan player picked off the pass, dribbled once, and inadvertently stepped out of bounds.

The clock showed time expired, but the referee put 0.8 seconds back on the clock It was just enough for the Timberwolves to pass the ball in and get off a 3-point shot that bounced off the rim at the buzzer, leaving the final margin in Reardan’s favor.

Individual game stats were not reported for the game.
