Four honored with Quilts of Valor

COLFAX - Four veterans received appreciation for their service in the form of handmade quilts.

The Quilts of Valor were given to them at the Colfax Methodist Church on Nov. 10, according to Diana King.

Tom Carmody, Al Nave, Tony Roberts, and Tom Schlueter appeared to enjoy the quilts and the appreciation for their service.

Carmody, 83, and his wife, Anita, live in Colfax. He served in the Navy from June 1957 to September 1977. The Navy Petty Officer 1st Class served aboard the USS Fulton, USS Pine, USS McMorris, and the USS Pledge. Carmody also served at the recruiting office in Chicago, Naval reserve Training Center in Portland, Ore., and as in the Substance Abuse Crisis Intervention program.

Nave, 57, and his wife, Toni, live in St. John. He served in the Air Force and the Air Force National Guard from 1983 to 2005. He was station at Fairchild and Travis bases, and in England. He worked as a surgery tech and retired as a technical sergeant.

Roberts, 72, and his wife, Judy, live in Colfax. He served in the Air Force from 1968 to 1972 as a medic. He was stationed in the Philippines and Australia during the Vietnam War. His quilt was made by Diana Flint, of Deary, Idaho.

Schlueter, 78, lives in Colfax. He served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965 as a computer operator. The airman second class was stationed in Okinawa and Arkansas during the Vietnam War.
