Gary Clanton Eccles obituary

Gary Eccles died on Friday, November 12, 2021, at age 80 of lymphoma at Avalon Care Center in Spokane, Washington.

Gary was born on Sept. 19, 1941, in Endicott, Wash., to Clanton and Elma Fowler Eccles. He was raised on his parents wheat and cattle farm near Hooper, Wash., along with his older sister Janice. He attended school at Hooper Grade School and then LaCrosse High School.

Gary farmed with his father, Clanton Eccles, on the family farm for several years before moving to Spokane, where he has since lived.

In Spokane, Gary met Lila Ewing and they are the parents of two sons: Andrew Robin Eccles born in 1981, and Gregory Allen Eccles born in 1982.

A gentle person, Gary enjoyed reading and also watching golf and fishing programs on television.

In September of 2021, Gary was hospitalized and diagnosed with lymphoma. In October he moved to Avalon Care Center, where he was being cared for at the time of his death.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Andrew and Gregory Eccles, both of Spokane; his sister Janice McKay of Colfax; two nephews, Mark and wife Amy McKay of LaCrosse, Wash., Mike and wife Julie McKay of Wenatchee, Wash .; and by an aunt, Hetty Fowler of Colfax, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Bill McKay, and his niece Julie McKay Gerondale.

His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Avalon Care Center for the excellent care he received.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Donations may be made in Gary's memory to a charity of your choice.

Heritage Funeral Home of Spokane is in charge of the arrangements.
