Happy Halloween happenings

COLFAX - Halloween returns after the pandemic with chances to trick-or-treat at events throughout Whitman County.

ALBION

Pumpkin kits are available at the Albion Library. Kits include ingredients to make a pumpkin cake. All folks need to do is provide the pumpkin. Due to a limit of supplies, kits are one per family.

COLFAX

The Colfax Chamber of Commerce is hosting trick-or-treating along Main Street on Friday, Oct. 29.

The family friendly event provides a safe place for children to wear costumes and trick-or-treat Colfax businesses. Participating businesses have a flier in the window and are giving out candy.

The event runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Colfax library is participating in the chamber's trick-or-treat on Main Street.

"Come dressed in your costume (or not) for a treat," stated a library spokesperson.

ELBERTON HIKING TRAIL

Spooky Trail Tales continues for the rest of the month at the Elberton Hiking Trail. Selected stories from "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," by Alvin Schwartz, are posted along the trail.

GARFIELD

A trunk-or-treat is offered by Schaut's Market and the Garfield Christian fellowship in Garfield on Oct. 30 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It's in the 200 block of West California Street, which is going to be blocked for vehicles to be parked and offer kids a chance to trick-or-treat for candy from the trucks of participating cars.

The Garfield Christian Fellowship is providing chili, hot dogs, and hot chocolate.

The Garfield library is taking part in the town's annual event.

MALDEN

Malden is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat for kids on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the city park.

Trunk-or-Treat is people offering candy or trinkets to children from the trunk of their car rather than a house.

Organizers are conducting a trunk decorating contest. Participants are asked to arrive and set up by 1 p.m.

Halloween craft bags are available at the Malden and St. John libraries, according to Catalina Flores, Whitman County Library.

OAKESDALE

The Oakesdale Library joins the town's annual Halloween parade on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.

"Stop by the library for candy, while you trick-or-treat around local businesses," stated Flores.

PALOUSE

Kids can collect candy and toys from cars in downtown Palouse on Halloween, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The second annual Downtown Palouse Trunk-or-Treat gathers participating cars to provide treats for kids. People wanting to take part can sign up at the library or by calling Paula at 509-595-1885.

Candy for kids, prizes for the best trunk, and "fun for the whole family," stated organizers.

Trunk-or-treaters can find the event at the skate park at the corner of Whitman Street and Hall Street

The Palouse library is offering mask kits through Oct. 29. Kids can choose between a gentle pumpkin, a midnight cat, a fantastical creature, and more.

PULLMAN

A trunk-or-treat is taking place in the parking lot of the Gladish Community and Cultural Center on Oct. 30.

The Pullman Moose Lodge is sponsoring the event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 15 NW State Street in Pullman.

Kids can trick-or-treat candy from the trunks of participants' cars. Then take part in the YMCA of the Palouse Kids Carnival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It's geared for younger kids with prizes, games, and crafts.

The carnival admittance is a donation to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse or $2 for 12 and older without a donation. Kids under 12 are admitted free.
