OLYMPIA - Malden is receiving nearly $1 million for a new fire station from the state Department of Commerce.
The state chose 20 rural cities, towns, and counties to receive a total of more than $11.4 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for 2021, according to Penny Thomas, commerce communications spokesperson.
Three grants are for towns in Whitman County and one for Washtucna.
Malden lost most of its buildings in the devastating 2020 wildland fire, including the fire station. The state is providing $900,000 to rebuild it and an additional $30,000 for outdoor recreation plan...
