Timberwolves open season against Liberty Christian

TEKOA — The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves face a tough gridiron schedule when they take the field this fall.
The boys football team is competing in the 1B Southeast (eight-man) league this season.
While the Timberwolves are not ranked, at least three of their competitors this season made ScorebookLive.com’s Top 10 preseason rankings.
The Liberty Christian Patriots, Pomeroy Pirates, and the DeSales Fighting Irish all got listed as teams to watch this season.
The Patriots are ranked No. 4 in the state in eight-man football, while the Pomeroy Pirates are ranked No. 7. DeSales, of Walla Walla, is ranked No. 10.
The Timberwolves are tentatively scheduled to open at home at Rosalia High School’s field, at the south end of Summit Avenue, against Liberty Christian. The opening kickoff is 6 p.m. on Sept. 10.
The boys then host the unranked Entiat Tigers at 2 p.m. on Sept. 18, at the field in Tekoa, below the school on North Madison Street.
Then the Timberwolves take on No. 7-ranked Pomeroy on the same field at 3 p.m. on Sept. 24. The game is Tekoa-Rosalia’s first league game of the season.
After the season-opener, the boys go on the road to Sunnyside Christian in Sunnyside on Oct. 1 and Yakama Tribal in Toppenish on Oct. 8, before returning home to face league and county rival St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 in Rosalia.
The boys travel to Walla Walla on Oct. 22 to face the No. 10-ranked DeSales Fighting Irish and return home on Oct. 29 to host Touchet for a 7 p.m. senior night game.
The Timberwolves wrap up the season with a rematch against No. 4 ranked Liberty Christian at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6. That game is at Liberty Christian, 2200 Williams Road, Richland.
The top teams advance to post-season playoffs that begin on Nov. 13.
While the local boys have a tough schedule on their hands, they avoid playing No. 1 ranked Odessa and No. 9-ranked Wilbur Creston.
The Timberwolves lost to the Odessa Tigers, 74-0, and Wilbur-Creston, 64-42, during the abbreviated spring 2021 football season.
Other top-ranked Class 1B teams in the preseason poll include Almira-Coulee/Hartline, No. 2, Quilcene Rangers, No. 3, Lummi Blackhawks, No. 5, Naselle Comets, No. 6, and the Neah Bay Red Devils, No. 8.
