Ballots mailed for primary election

COLFAX — Ballots are in the mail for the primary election.

The 18-day voting period runs from July 16 to Aug. 3.

Up for election in Whitman County are two city council positions in Malden, one in Palouse, one in Pullman, and the election of a Cheney School District director.

Each race has three candidates. Races with one or two candidates are held during the general election.

Part of the Cheney School District is in Whitman County. Chad Smith, Susanne G. Dolle, and Zachary Zorrozua seek to be the director for District 2.

For council position No. 1 in Malden the choices are Kelly Adams, Scott Hokonson, and Scott J. Schauf.

For council position No. 3 in Malden the candidates are Colleen Cross, John Lenz, and Janell Turner.

In Palouse, the three people seeking council position No. 6 are Robert Brooks, Leslie Jo Sena, and Scott Storch.

Pullman council position No. 7 is a race between Francis A. Benjamin, Eric Fejeran, Al (Alan) Sorensen, and Max Williams.

“I recommend Washingtonians mail their ballot early to ensure their votes count and their voices are heard,” stated Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman. “During this primary election, voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on local positions and issues that affect our everyday lives.”

People may register to vote at VoteWA.gov. A valid Washington state driver’s license or other state-issued identification is required to register online. Voter registration in-person at county election offices may be done until 8 p.m. on Aug. 3.
