Whitman County Humane Society receives $5,000

Petco Love grants local humane society $5,000

PULLMAN — Whitman County Humane Society was granted $5,000 from the non-profit Petco Love.

“Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier,” stated Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love.

Since 1999, the Petco Foundation provided $300 million to organizations invested in adoption and other animal lifesaving efforts. Kogut stated they’ve helped find homes for more than 6.5 million pets through more than 4,000 organizations.

“With kitten season upon us, this grant will help us save the many kittens that come to our facility, often from barns and fields around Whitman County,” stated Annie Lindsey, foster program director of Whitman County Humane Society. “We are excited to have these funds which will provide resources to nurture animals in need into better health and prepare them for adoption.”

Serving Whitman County since 2000, the Pullman-based organization has saved thousands of dogs, cats, exotic pets, and even barnyard animals.

“We have maintained a live-release rate of over 97.5% and been able to provide substantial community assistance with our food bank, TNR program, and spay and neuter assistance programs,” stated Lindsey.
