Crew continues repairing Rosalia Trestle

Rock Supremacy repairs concrete and steel rebar

ROSALIA — Work continues on the Rosalia Trestle with the application of shotcrete to shore up damaged concrete.

The work is being completed by Bend, Ore.-based Rock Supremacy, said Washington State Parks Acting Capital Program Coordinator Brian Patnode.

Washington State Parks manages the trestle as part of the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.

"They'll be done in about three weeks," Patnode said on May 11.

Rock Supremacy was the low bidder on the project at approximately $100,000, he said. The bid was opened in January.

Under the bid specifications, the company is to remove loose concrete, repair and seal rebar, and repair holes in concrete with shotcrete - sprayed concrete mortar.

"They are supposed to start the shotcrete process today or tomorrow," Patnode said.

Once the shotcrete sets, Rock Supremacy seals it to protect the trestle from further weather damage.

The company also adds clearance signs for truck drivers to help curtail future impact damage, he said.

"We've worked in close coordination with Whitman County," Patnode said.

The trestle is open to trail traffic during the repair work.

Below the span, Rosalia Road remains open with alternating, one-way traffic managed by a portable stoplight.

Once complete, Patnode said Washington State Parks will turn its attention to the Tekoa Trestle.

The agency recently awarded a bid for "just over $1 million" to Boss Construction to repair Tekoa Trestle bridge decking and railing.

"We'll be starting that next," he said.
