Colfax softball collects two wins from Broncos

Bulldogs softball now undefeated for 2021 season

COLFAX - Bulldogs softball has a nice problem to have.

"We're not getting a lot of innings in (though) we're getting games in," said Colfax Coach Tracy Imler.

The problem persisted last Friday on Senior Day at McDonald Park playing against the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague-Washtucna-Kahlotus Broncos.

Colfax built a 15-0 lead off of a solo home run from Helina Hahn to get the game called in the fourth inning under the mercy rule. In the second game, a 12-0 lead also ended in the fourth inning.

"Basically, not a lot of competition for us," said Imler. "I was taking it easy on the base paths pretty early on, slowing it down."

Leading offense on Senior Day was three of the honorees. Rian Jones and Haun each got three hits and Anni Cox added two hits.

On the mound, Jorja Koerner threw three innings in game one, followed by one from Karmen Akesson, adding up to zero hits for the Broncos. In game two, Justice Brown and Kylee Pederson did the same, adding up to the same zero hits.

The Bulldogs have run through all of their opponents so far in the shortened year, sweeping Asotin, Kettle Falls, Reardan and the Broncos.

Colfax is set to play next at home against Davenport on Saturday, followed by what promises to be the marquee matchup of the season in the Bi-County 2B league. Colfax plays Northwest Christian on May 4 and both teams are unbeaten.

"We're trying not to look ahead to that game ... it's definitely on the calendar for us," said Imler.

For the season, five Colfax players are hitting above .500. Koerner has a .750 average, Brown .714, Cox .692, Delaney Imler .579 and Perry Imler .526.

"You get above 700, that's fairly uncommon. But I don't think we've seen our best competition yet," said Imler. "We'll see if we can keep this pace up the rest of the year."

The team average is .516.

On defense, Colfax has committed errors at a rate of two per game.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Tuesday at Liberty, though the Liberty School District has since paused extra-curricular activities and returned to online-only education due to COVID-19 protocols. The game was moved to May 8.
