Free trees for people affected by Babb Road Fire

MALDEN — Free trees are available to people impacted by last year's Babb Road Fire on Wednesday at the Malden library.

The Pine Creek Community Restoration Long Term Recovery Organization is giving away 250 Red Oak trees and 250 Ponderosa Pine trees from noon until 2 p.m.

"The trees were donated by Bartlett Tree Experts with organizational support from the Urban Forest Citizen Advisory Committee," stated organizers.

The trees are being distributed at the temporary library and food bank in the city park.

"The goal is to rebuild the best community possible in the wake of the 2020 Whitman County fires. The fire destroyed 17,700 acres, approximately 121 homes were impacted and 350 impacted people. Just in Malden alone, 80% of the homes and structures have been destroyed," stated organizers.
