Timberwolves cheer squad is WIAA Team of the Month

TEKOA – The Tekoa-Rosalia football cheer team was named a Team of the Month for March.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and the Dairy Farmers of Washington name teams of the month in recognition for performance, dedication in the classroom and service to the community.

Dairy Farmers of Washington presents each team a trophy, $100 donated to their program, and coupons for local dairy products, according to the WIAA.

"We just found out ... it was really exciting this year because we have six girls, five are seniors. They can go out with some recognition under their belt," said Cheer Coach Melinda Wilkins.

The cheer steam is Mary Jane Anderson, Chloe Place, Hannah Theis, Alyssa Bird, Elise Wilkins, and Angelina Nocker.

The Timberwolves cheer team has a combined GPA of 3.6 with five of the six members being part of the Associated Student Body (ASB) government. Two take part in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Future Problem Solvers.

Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves' football cheer team "played a vital role this season by adding team spirit, not only for the players, but also to the live stream of the games for viewers at home.

At a halftime, the team honored the local essential workers with a positive message to the community during the pandemic, stated the WIAA.

"This year has been kind of crazy," said Melinda Wilkins. "It was nice to have the girls recognized and we were kind of surprised."
