Ronald Leroy Olson

Ronald Leroy Olson, 79, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, February 25, 2021, after battling cancer.

Born in Colfax, Wash., May 20, 1941, to Rudolph and Irene Olson, he was the seventh of eight children. A 1959 graduate of Colfax High School, he won several awards as a golfer and lightweight boxer: 1959 – CHS Golf Team Captain, 1958-'59; Tekoa Golf Club Manager; Spokane AAU Smoker, Outstanding Fighter, 132lb .; Dayton AAU Smoker, Outstanding Fighter, 132lb .; Eastern Wash. Golden Gloves, Outstanding Fighter, 132lb .; Inland Empire High School Golf medal, State.

Ronald joined the United States Marine Corps and was an active serviceman from 1962–1982. He became a reserve member of the corps for another decade following and ranked as a Master Sergeant (E-8).

He was a full-time trouble maker, collected stamps and coins, loved fishing, bowling, and especially golf: Asst. Golf Pro, Norton A.F.B., San Bernadino, Calif., 1961; 1970 – Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Golf Club Champion; All Service Golf Tournament, 7th place; 1975 – Defence Mapping School Invitational, Low Gross; All Marine Golf Team, 1981.

He managed the Colfax Golf Club for 10 years combined and reigned as a champ for many more: Hole-in-One, Colfax Golf Club, 2002; Colfax Open/Whitman County Champion – six years; Colfax Club Champion, 10 years; Senior Colfax Club Champion, nine years.

Ronald is survived by two wonderful daughters, Lori (Olson) Hodel, Baker City, Ore .; Katrina Olson, Vacaville, Calif .; brother, Edward Olson; and sister, Debra Allen; seven grandkids, five great-grandkids, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends through the years. He loved the whole bunch and was very proud of them.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
