Oakesdale volleyball beats Colton and Pomeroy

SJEL- Ashlynn Archer hits another kill in 1B action.

COLFAX - In the abbreviated 2020-moved to-2021 volleyball season, teams play matches almost as much as they go to practice, putting on uniforms three nights per week.

Now entering the last third of the season, Oakesdale leads the Southeast 1B league.

The Nighthawks swept Tekoa/Rosalia at home Tuesday night (25-6, 25-7, 25-6) to push their record to 7-0. Gianna Anderson recorded 12 kills and 12 blocks while LouEllen Reed had 22 assists.

Last Saturday Oakesdale beat Colton in four (23-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-11). LouEllen Reed had 32 assists, Jessie Reed got 25 digs and Marilla Hockett 12 kills.

"The league is tough. Colton is always scrappy. We have to be mentally focused and ready to play every night," said Nighthawks coach McKinzie Turner.

On Feb. 25 at home, Oakesdale lost to Pomeroy in a rematch of the 2019 state 1B championship match (25-7, 25-17, 25-16).

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT/LACROSSE

The Eagles beat Garfield/Palouse Tuesday night at home (25-11, 25-18, 25-17). Ashlynn Archer posted a line of six aces, 10 kills, 10 digs and five blocks while Addisen Becker got 14 assists.

On Monday, S.J.E.L. went to Colton to redeem an earlier loss, this time winning (17-25, 25-15, 25-22, 26-24). Archer had 18 kills and 17 digs while Becker got 28 assists.

On Feb. 27, the Eagles swept Tekoa/Rosalia (25-17, 25-9, 25-11). Archer got 15 kills and Becker 22 assists. Kyra Holt served eight aces.

St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse (5-2) is set to play on Thursday at Oakesdale before meeting Garfield/Palouse again Saturday in Palouse.

COLTON

The Wildcats won at LaCrosse in five games Feb. 25 (25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 28-30, 15-9), as Josie Schultheis delivered 19 kills and 13 digs. Rylee Vining had 43 assists. She and Schultheis both served four aces.

For the Eagles, Archer got 15 kills and 16 digs while Becker added 28 assists.

On Feb. 24, Colton beat Pomeroy (25-12, 25-12, 25-16). Schultheis totaled 15 kills and Rylee Vining 23 assists. A day before, on senior night in Colton, the Wildcats beat Tekoa/Rosalia in three (25-17, 25-8, 25-17), honoring seniors Schultheis, Vining and Addy Purnell.

Schultheis got 11 kills for the match and Vining 23 assists and six aces. Purnell served five aces.

GARFIELD/PALOUSE

Garfield/Palouse is 1-4 after a loss to St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse Tuesday night in St. John.

Last Saturday, the Vikings went down in four to Pomeroy (14-25, 19-25, 25-14, 16-25).

Maci Brantner led with 12 kills in the loss, Denni Fealy had 18 assists and Kenzi Pederson posted 14 digs.

"They're starting to come together as a team," said Vikings coach Brad Rader. "Too many serving errors – That's what's hurting us now."

Garfield/Palouse began the season with losses to Colton and Oakesdale, followed by a win over Tekoa/Rosalia.
