Weight limits lifted on county roads

COLFAX — Weight restrictions were lifted on county roads last Friday.

“We’ve already been flooded with requests for permits,” said Whitman County Public Works Director Mark Storey.

The public works department institutes weight restrictions on roads every year as roads thaw in the late winter. The limits are posted to contain damage to the roadways.

Once lifted, hinged road signs set a 19,500-pound load limit.

The decision to flip signs is made each year by Storey after conferring with his supervisors about frost conditions. Weight limits are posted on both paved and gravel roads.
