Enchanting tool art on display

UNIONTOWN - A new art exhibit will open Feb. 4 featuring the works of Rachael Eastman.

"Tools: Their Cleaver Enchantment" will be on display in Dahmen Barn will run from Feb. 4-28; the barn is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sunday.

Visitors can meet the artist from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 7.

Eastman uses watercolor as a medium for creating the appearance of the wear and tear a tool sustains.

In her works, she mimics the rust-like textures using the wet-on-wet process, capturing a tool as it exists.

The life of a tool can be lengthy, passing through a variety of owners, she said.

Fabric pattern paper constitutes the background. Each tool has been hand-stitched to emphasize the linear lines of the tool itself.

Eastman integrates both masculine and feminine aspects into the same to provide balance and harmony.

Eastman, of Moscow, Idaho, got her start in 2005 with her first tool-related art, "Girls who Wear Makeup can also Play with Tools."
