Northwest Farm Credit Services relocates Colfax office
January 28, 2021
COLFAX — Northwest Farm Credit Services moved into its new office Jan. 19 at 301 S. Main St. Suite A.
The location is the site of the former Arby’s restaurant and Purpose Roasters.
The local branch and its two full-time employees leave a longtime spot farther north at 224 N. Main St.
“We were kind of maxed-out in our old location,” branch Manager Ryan Kile said. “And the biggest improvement (is) now we actually have parking.”
Northwest Farm Credit’s new offices include a conference room and the room to add another two to three employees.
Space allows for virtual learning events for up to 10 customers who may attend for interactive presentations with farmers in other regions.
S&L Rentals, locally owned by Scott and Lori Ackerman, bought the former restaurant last August and converted it to office space.
“We gutted it down to the outside walls and started fresh on the inside,” co-owner Scott Ackerman said.
Northwest Farm Credit hired Associated Construction of Spokane to build its actual offices; work began last September.
The structure has two suites. The second remains unfinished as negotiations are underway for a tenant.
Ackerman said it would be a new business coming to town by April 1.
The Ackermans bought the building after plans to build something new in a lot behind Rosauers changed as a result of COVID-19 shutdowns.
The USDA Grain Inspection Office was set to be the anchor tenant in a new building, but needed to seek a less expensive option in light of changes to the economy.
The grain inspectors later agreed to move into offices installed in the bottom of the Department of Social and Health Services building, 418 S. Main St., also owned by S&L Rentals.
On the site of a former gas station, the Purpose Roasters building was built in 1994 to be an Arby’s restraurant.
