Serving Whitman County since 1877

Kinzer recognized for years of service

COLFAX - Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers and Public Works Director Mark Storey presented a wood-carved American flag with a county logo on it to outgoing county Commissioner Dean Kinzer on Monday morning to commemorate his eight years as commissioner.

An engraving marks his two terms, from 2013-2020. Myers and Storey represented the county's Elected and Appointed Team, which commissioned the carving. The group is made up of county elected officials and department heads except county commissioners.

"It's been an honor and a pleasure to serve with all of the people," Kinzer said. "There's no question we have the best elected people there is here in Whitman County, and employees throughout the county."

Kinzer served as chairman Monday for the board's final meeting of the year.

With 48.8% of the Nov. 3 vote, Kinzer, a Republican, lost the commission seat to Tom Handy, a Pullman independent, who had 50.7% support.

Commissioner-elect Handy was sworn in Dec. 22.
