Dislikes Washington Policy Center editorial
October 29, 2020
As a Whitman County resident and subscriber to the Whitman Gazette I am dismayed that you would publish (so prominently) an editorial by Liv Finne of the Washington Policy Center, “Inslee funding unnecessary union jobs”, Sept. 10.
Liv Finne has probably never seen a Palouse wheat field nor does she have any perspective on rural public schools and the families they serve. Most, if not all Whitman County schools are holding on site classes and the labor force is not unionized. Furthermore, the local public school is the only choice for parents in most of our rural communities. So why publish Finne’s opinion on bus drivers, labor unions and school choice when, it has nothing to do with the price of peas?
To be fair, I know Liv Finne. Over the years I followed her sharp and often misdirected criticism of public schools. The last time I talked with her I learned that she had her kids enrolled in the most prestigious and expensive private school in Seattle. It was a “school choice” she and her well-connected husband made without the use of my tax dollars. I would like to keep it that way.
According to the Northwest Accountability Project, “The Washington Policy Center is an organization funded by out-of-state billionaires that want to advance a radical political agenda to privatize public education, keep wages low, and stop the expansion of health care to working families in Washington”. Please, Mr. Editor, find a local source to fill your opinion page.
