Moose collision doesn't stop Colfax ambulance

STEPTOE—In a rare occurrence, a vehicle hit a moose in the Steptoe area in the dark and the vehicle was not crippled or worse. Which was a good thing in this case as the vehicle was a Colfax ambulance with a patient bound for Spokane.

The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 12. The ambulance was en-route to Sacred Heart to deliver the patient when it struck a moose calf. The animal was killed on contact while the only damage to the ambulance was a mirror being taken off. The collision also resulted in moose feces being smeared down the side of the vehicle.

The patient was delivered safely to the Spokane hospital. The moose carcass was too badly damaged to salvage.
