Coyotes work through summer schedule

COLFAX – The Palouse Coyotes 17 & under independent baseball team played a team named Northwest Natural at McDonald Park in Colfax Saturday, July 20, losing 4-2.

The Coyotes' Brady Wells hit a double to lead Palouse batters, while Carson Coulter, Ryan Bickelhaupt and Kolby Sisk each had base hits.

A second game was played against the Kirkland Merchants on Sunday, the Coyotes winning 3-2 in nine innings. Braden Wells led with three hits and Mitch Lavier and Coulter each had two hits.

On July 15, the Palouse Coyotes 19 & under team took both games of a doubleheader over Mt. Spokane.

Playing at McDonald Park, Palouse won 9-4 and 7-5.

Oak Held led at bat with three hits and an RBI while Coulter had two hits and two RBIs. Nate Akesson added two more hits and an RBI.

In the second game, Held hit his third home run in a two-day span.

The Coyotes split a doubleheader with Moscow July 8 after losing their coach due to increased COVID-19 cases in the area, with a new baby at home. The team is now coached by Gabby Rodriguez.

The Coyotes lost the first game 9-7.

Oak Held and Nate Akesson led at bat with two singles and an RBI. Coulter hit a double and a single while Konner Kinkade added a double. More base hits came from Payton Kallaher, Layne Gingerich, Tanner Richardson, Kadyn Carpenter, Mitch Lavielle and Ryan Bicklehaupf.

Akesson pitched for four innings with eight strikeouts before Kelan Becker finished the game with two strikeouts.

In the second game of the July 8 doubleheader, the Coyotes won 5-4.

Colter led at bat with an RBI-double while Kinkade, Held, Kallaher and Gingerich also hit doubles. Lavielle and Sisk each added a single. Peter Smith pitched first, with two strikeouts, before Gingerich came in for five more.

The team was set to play next on Tuesday at Moscow for another doubleheader.
