Antique swing vandalized

The antique rod-iron swing at the Perkins House was damaged over the Memorial Day weekend.

The damage was discovered May 26 by Perkins House staff. The back of the single seat swing was bent back. It was made for the

Perkins House for visitors to use.

"Lots of people sit in it," said Val Gregory, Whitman County Historical Society director.

Due to the construction of the swing, it would take a lot to to inflict that level of damage.

The swing is located behind the Perkins House. Gregory noted that while there is security inside the building, there are no outdoor cameras.

The historical society is currently trying to find someone who can fix the swing. According to Gregory, it would have to be fixed on site by someone with a welder.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact Colfax Police.
