Heavy rains on the Palouse

Afternoon thunderstorms brought rain hard and fast across the county Sunday, May 17. The gauge at the NRSC office recorded 0.5 inches of precipitation for the weekend. Other readings from around the county measured from 0.2 inches to the highest recorded at Colton with 0.54. National Weather Service reports are of heavy rain and hail hitting the county.

Whitman County Sheriff’s Office posted video of water rushing down the side of the road above Buck Canyon after the deluge.

The only damage in Colfax caused by the onslaught of water was on the North Palouse River Road which had water over the road. The county also reported minimal damage.

Weekend weather is predicted to be dry, but windy. Friday wind speeds are expected to be 17 mph and Saturday 11 mph.
