Colfax census response tops 50%

Response to the 2020 Census from Colfax households is at 57 percent as of April 14, which is above return rates for the county and state so far.

Whitman County households lag behind with only 45 percent returning; Pullman is at 45.8 percent return rate.Washington state is at 53.4 percent and the nation is averaging 47.9 percent census returns.

Other town return rates in the county include Palouse 46.2 percent, Tekoa 10.2 percent, Endicott 18.6 percent, LaCrosse 56.6 percent, Colton 14.6 percent, Malden 17.2 percent, Farmington 27.5 percent, Garfield 20.8 percent, Oakesdale 37.9 percent, Rosalia 47.1 percent and Uniontown 10.2 percent.

Whitman County also holds the highest return rate for town and second lowest return rate in the state. Lamont with 61 percent has the highest in state return rate and Albion with 2.9 percent has the second lowest return rate in the state. Albion is also one of the lowest returning towns in the country ranking 18,954 out of the 19,132 municipalities in the United States.

The best-responding county in Washington is Benton County at 57.9 percent.

Washington residents have just over a month to voluntarily self-respond to the Census before Census enumerators begin in-person visits to unresponsive households.
