Pomeroy, Colton lead 1B girls league into January

Coming out of Christmas break, the Pomeroy girls lead Southeast 1B league basketball with a 3-0 record while Colton stands at 2-0 and Oakesdale 2-1, with their loss to Pomeroy. Garfield/Palouse, Touchet and St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse are all 0-2.

League play now picks up as each team will play each other twice during the regular season.

Just after Christmas, area teams went to tournaments at Reardan and Colton.

Wahkiakum 48

Taylor Thomas delivered 26 points for the home Wildcats (7-3 overall) to finish their Christmas tournament Dec. 28 with a win over the Mules. Maggie Meyer added 15 points for Colton and Rylee Vining 12 points and six assists. Josie Schultheis got 11 rebounds.

Oakesdale 48

Oakesdale played at the Reardan tournament Dec. 27-28 and lost the second of their two games. The Nighthawks shot under 30 percent against the 1B Hornets.

Reardan 52

The Nighthawks finished in Reardan with a comeback win, outscoring the hosts 16-3 in the fourth quarter, led by junior LouEllen Reed.

“She kind of brought us alive,” said Oakesdale Coach Heidi Perry. The Nighthawks will play next at home Jan. 6 in an added game against Pullman High School.

Colton 59

Tekoa/Rosalia 12

Riley Vining’s 28 points led Colton in a 59-12 win over Tekoa/Rosalia in the Wildcats’ Christmas tournament Dec. 26. Taylor Thomas added 13 points and Maggie Meyer 11. Josie Schultheis got 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Garfield/Palouse 46

Waterville 39

The Vikings girls won at the Colton tournament Dec. 26, led by Kenzi Pedersen’s 16 points and nine rebounds. Paige Collier scored nine points.

Waterville 41

In further action in their home tournament, Colton beat Waterville in a game of even scoring. Maggie Meyer had 17 points, Taylor Thomas 13 and Josie Schultheis 11.

Colton advanced to play Wahkiakum.

Madi Cloninger led Garfield/Palouse with nine points in a Dec. 27 loss at the Colton tournament.
