Surprised

December 26, 2019

I was a bit surprised by Colleen Winchester’s hate-filled open letter to Cathy McMorris Rogers. I was more even more surprised by what triggered her anger. A Constituency email survey on robocalls? Really?

It seems that these days the most minuscule action or inaction will trigger some folks. It seems some folks will hatefully protest, calling their political opponents the most vile of names (I am not saying Ms. Winchester would ever do that―I certainly trust she would not―but some folks do) and at the same time claim they are hearing “dog whistles” from those same opponents. (If one side claims they hear a “dog whistle” from the other side, but the supposed intended audience doesn’t hear it…then who is really the “dog”).

I join Colleen in being tired of all the “ugliness” we see in DC. I also “feel tired of feeling like everyone running the country has lost their minds.” I too am tired of all the spite and all the hatefulness and invective that is washing over our nation’s capital. But then hate is easy to sell. Actually, I also hate some things, but mostly refrain from trying to sell that hate. One of the things I hate is pickled beets. However, I am proud to say I don’t INSIST my wife join me in my hatred, and I have not banned them from the refrigerator.

However, I just can’t see being triggered by a survey about robocalls. In my opinion, Cathy has been pretty steady in a House of Representatives ruled by chaos. She remains steady on her support of our Snake River Dams, steady in her support of our veterans and steady in support of the USMCA. I do differ with her on several issues, but I realize she doesn’t represent only me but the entirety of our district.
