Oakesdale junior Simon Anderson goes for two against Genesee's double team defense Dec. 7.

Is a train-a-comin' from Oakesdale?

They lost four starters from last year but is it time nonetheless to reinforce the walls of gyms around the Southeast 1B league?

At 3-0 to start the year, with two wins over 2B schools, the even-handed Nighthawks have suggested more is to come.

"The biggest thing is the consistency with which we've played, in competing on both ends of the floor," said Oakesdale Coach Carl Crider, following a Tuesday night home win over Lind/Ritzville/Sprague. "The way we're playing, there is a lot to be excited about. We're setting the standard pretty high for ourselves."

Winning 56-45 over LRS, junior guard Tyler Bober led Oakesdale with 18 points while Kit Hockett had 14 and Matt Hockett 11.

"This group doesn't have the balance we had last year, with the inside threat of Kieron (Anderson)," said Crider. "But we're a really good passing group, getting the ball where it's needed, when it's needed."

The Nighthawks finish their four-game home stand to open the season Friday at home against Touchet (7:30 p.m.), beginning league play, followed by a road game at St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse Saturday (5:30 p.m.).

Oakesdale led 18-3 at the end of the first quarter and it continued from there Dec. 7 at home against the non-league Bulldogs.

Kit Hockett led Nighthawks scorers with 16 points while Matt Hockett and Ryan Henning each had 13 and Simon Anderson eight. Dawson Durham led Genesee with 13 points and nine rebounds.
