State slots decided Saturday

Early November, nearing the second week and Christmas stuff glares in store windows.

Have they no respect for what season it really is? District volleyball playoffs – with the 1B/2B state high school tournament in Yakima seven days away.

The Southeast 1B league’s no. 1-seed Pomeroy was set to host no. 4 St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse Wednesday night at 6 p.m. No. 2-seed Oakesdale hosted no. 3 Colton, also Wednesday night.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, because Pomeroy drew a higher number at a September athletic director’s meeting – and thus took the top seed in the eventual Southeast 1B regular season tie with Oakesdale – the Pirates host the district finals.

To begin Saturday, the winners from Wednesday will play for the District Nine championship. The double-elimination tournament continues in Pomeroy to decide the last local entry to the SunDome.

The state 1B/2B tournament begins Nov. 14.
