Bulldogs sweep W/C for NE semi-final slot

Colfax volleyball team swept the Wilbur/Creston Wildcats Tuesday night to advance to the semi final round of the NE playoffs which will be today at Liberty. The Bulldogs will play Northwest Christian, the top north side finisher which swept Asotin on the first playoff round on the NWC court.

Playing on their home court for the last time this season, the Bulldogs topped the Wildcats 25-13, 25-21 and 25-14 in the first playoff round.

The Wildcats started the match with an early lead, before Kierstyn York went to the service line and ignited the Colfax offense.

The Bulldogs led 13-5 after York finished her stint at the line, and they kept up the pressure for the game win.

The Wildcats turned it up a notch in the the second game by coming back to within four points, but Colfax fought them off with some big matchups at the net. It ended at 25-21 with Asher Cai putting down a block against the visitors.

Colfax led early in the third game 13-7, but the Wildcats cooked a string of points, and came within one point, 13-14.

Perry Imler then hit two straight kills for Colfax to spark a five-point rally.

Annalee Cox went to the serve line and stayed there for the balance. She started the last run with two aces and picked up one more on the way to match point for a 25-14 win in the third set.

Sophie Klaveano finished with 16 kills for Colfax, and Cox finished with three aces and 24 digs. Justice Brown had 28 assists.

The action moves to Liberty today with Colfax and Northwest Christian playing in the first semi-final match at 4 p.m.

Liberty was a three game winner over Springdale in the Tuesday round.

Chewelah also booked a sweep over Lind/Ritzville/Sprague and will advance to the semi-final.

Winners of today's semis will collide in the NE title game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Liberty. They will get the first and second district tickets to the state playoffs at Yakima next week.

Tuesday's losers will match up in elimination matches today at Liberty. The winners will face the semi-final losers Saturday to decide who will get the NE's other two tickets to state.

Playoff action will be in both gyms at Liberty.
