1B volleyball:

Oakesdale sweeps Pomeroy; Pirates get top playoff spot

It came down to the draw of a number at the start of the school year.

Pomeroy and Oakesdale both ran through the Southeast 1B league volleyball schedule, losing to no one but each other, culminating in Oakesdale’s home sweep of the Pirates Oct. 24.

Would that mean the Nighthawks take the no. 1 seed into the district tournament? No - Pomeroy will because their name was drawn higher than Oakesdale’s by the WIAA District Nine Director at a September athletic director’s meeting.

With the tiebreaker decided, no. 1-seed Pomeroy will host no. 4 St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. No. 2-seed Oakesdale will host no. 3 Colton at the same time.

On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, at Pomeroy, the two winners will play to decide the league’s top spot to state. The double-elimination tournament then continues that day to settle the last entry to the SunDome.

The state 1B/2B tournament begins in Yakima Thursday, Nov. 14.
