Census Bureau rep briefs county commissioners

Whitman County commissioners took in a visit from a representative of the U.S. Census Bureau Monday. Licett Figuera came from the regional office in Spokane to introduce herself before the once-every-10 years count begins next March.

Preliminary work has been completed in Whitman County, with a master address list created, followed by “lister” employees visiting new addresses since 2010 to confirm whether or not they may be residential.

This was done Aug. 4-Oct. 18.

Next year, county residents can expect a postcard in early March offering a new option for the census – an online form to fill out.

A traditional paper form will also be sent a month later if the household does not respond.

Door-knocking by census workers will follow for locations where they did not receive a response.
