The Colfax high school football team will go into action against the strong Walla Walla organization on the local grounds Friday afternoon at 3:30.

The Walla Walla team will arrive on the afternoon train and they will be taken direct from the station to the football field. Captain F. B. Wheeler of the Colfax team has instructed his men to go after the visitors hard, right from the start, and if they can cross the line within a few minutes after the play begins, they will win the game.

The members of the Colfax team claim no team can defeat them after being on the train for eight hours.

What is the ‘true and fair” value of an acre of Whitman County wheatland and how is it going to be determined?

That’s the big question facing Assessor Robert D. Repp and his staff as they make preparations for a complete revaluation of all real estate in Whitman County during the next four years.

The revaluation has nothing to do with the mandatory raise in valuation from 25 to 50 per cent of true value ordered by the supreme court recently, the revaluation is required by the Ryder act, passed some years ago by the legislature, but ‘loosely enforced” until mounting demands in recent months for moer tax revenue forced attention to the law.

Fall seeding in Whitman County this year is now underway in fields which are as much as 50 percent behind in moisture after the dry, hot, summer of 1994. Farm operators now are putting seed into the round with the anticipation that winter’s rain and snow will bring better news, according to John Burns, county agent.

Among 32 volunteers who report rainfall figures to the Soil Conservation Service in Colfax, nine have submitted enough monthly reports to compile crop year rainfall figures for 1994.

Those figures show a range from an 8.95-inch total at La Crosse to a 13.16-inch total at Garfield. The totals are from September 1 through Aug. 30.

Malden residents will soon have access to internet service.

A Spokane Valley telecommunications company last week began construction on a community center that will provide high-speed internet access with computers.

“Our hope is that this really proves to be an economic benefit to them,” said Erica Schreiber with Wired or Wireless.

The company is funding construction of the community computer center, located next to town hall, under a $671,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. Wired or Wireless will soon offer high-speed wireless internet connection to Malden residents.
