Kammerzell moves to rescind:

Port vote on Co-op remains in place

The Broadband Cooperative LLC discussion was brought back to the table at the Oct. 3 Port of Whitman County meeting. It was added to the agenda by Port Commissioner Tom Kammerzell, who voted against the measure at the previous meeting when the port voted 2-1 motion to join the cooperative.

The Cooperative is being formed through an inter-local agreement with the Port of Bellingham, Port of Kalama, Port of Pasco, Port of Ridgefield, Port of Skagit County and Port of Whitman County.

Kammerzell said that since the vote on Sept. 19 no action has been taken, and he wanted to make a motion to reconsider.

“We are not taking active participation in reaching out to the public to get their input. They don't know what's going on unless we reach out to them,” Kammerzell said. “These are pretty significant issues we are dealing with here. This is the greatest change in the Port since it was set up in 1958.”

Kammerzell said that every dollar that comes through the Port's budget is public money. He continued by saying how the public shouldn't be asking questions regarding what's been done to them rather than for them.

The motion to rescind the previous vote failed on a 1-2 vote. Commissioners Kristine Meyer and John Love voted to keep the decision in place.
