Rondell Hunt-DeRooy

A memorial service for Rondell Hunt-DeRooy, 57, a member of the 1979 class of Colfax High School, will be today, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Colfax with Pastor Dean Ellis officiating. She will be buried at the Colfax cemetery.

Born Oct. 9, 1961, in Idaho Falls to Ronald and Bunny Moyer Hunt, she moved with her family to Endicott and then to Colfax where she started school.

After graduation she worked as a secretary at Washington State University and then moved to Seattle where she worked in retail sales and then as a nurses assistant at Harborview Medical Center and later for private doctors. She and Brian DeRooy were married in Seattle in 1991. They were later divorced, and she moved back to Colfax and later back to Seattle.

Surviving are her mother, Bunny Hunt, Lewiston; a daughter, Malia DeRooy, Hampton, Va .; two sisters, Tauna (Mark) Johnson, Moscow; and Andra (Stu) Warner, St. John; a half sister, Mindy (Matt) Stangel, Sandpoint, Idaho, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dalton, in 2008. Her father died in 2014. An account has been set up at Columbia Bank and donations to assist the family can be sent to any branch of the bank.
