Peggy Jones

A celebration of life in memory of Peggy Larson Jones, retired Colfax teacher, will be Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Colfax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jacob Kanake officiating.

A resident of Colfax since 1973, she died of cancer Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at Whitman Health and Rehab at age 70. She has been cremated.

Born Aug. 20, 1948, in Portland, to Harold and Zoe Thompson Larson, she moved with her family at a young age to Richland where her father was employed by General Electric, a contractor on the Hanford project. She attended schools at Richland and graduated from Richland High School with the class of 1967. After earning her undergraduate degree in education from Central Washington University she taught two years in the Tonasket District before coming to Colfax where she was a special education teacher for grade school students. She later earned masters degrees from the University of Washington and Gonzaga University.

On Nov. 11, 1978, she and Jerry Jones, of Colfax, were married in the house on E. Wawawai in Colfax, where they made their home since.

After suffering a stroke in 1995, she retired from teaching. During her retirement she served on the boards of Relay for Life and Colfax Boy Scout Troop 595. One of her chief interests was directing older scouts through the final steps to earn the Eagle Scout award. Over approximately 20 years, her efforts usually produced one or two Colfax Eagle Scouts per year. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, music and researching local and family history.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Peter and wife Esther and Hugh and fiancee Sarah Jacobs, all of Shelton, Wash .; a brother, David Larson, Richland; a sister, Kathy Meade, Clinton, Md. Her parents and two brothers, Greg and Jeff Larson, preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorial donations go to Colfax Schools Foundation, N. 223 Main, Colfax, 99111.
